Billy The Kid

I believe "The Kid" was a hero in some aspects because of his immense efforts during the Lincoln County War to "fix" the corrupted lawmen and the crooked townspeople, it helped set some law and order in the town since now the authorities wouldn't favor specific peoples when they'd be involved in something. I think his acts of revenge on those he killed was wrong though because by doing so it made him forget that it really wasn't going to solve anything for him. From the documentary they make it seem like he was truly good at heart and that by doing all the things he did was right in his own mind but in reality his mind was clouded over and that could have really altered his point of perspectives (which I can understand being that his mother died during a crucial point in his life and his father abandoned him shortly after)  I definitely like how sneaky he was and how easily he could charm someone over because it seems like only something you'd see on television or read in a book.
WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE!!! What would you think if you saw this but with your name and face on it?

Billy The Kid

Before I tell you if I think Billy the kid was a hero or not let me say why. Billy was just a 15 year old kid with a father that didn’t care about him when his mother died, and because nobody wanted to care of Billy he learned to care of himself. Billy developed skills like gambling, shooting, stealing and killing that would help him survive in the Wild West which was the world that he chows to believe in. Billy was on the run from the law and then he was imprisoned for stealing horses from a man named John Tunstal. Tustal was a British cattle driver how needed cowboys that where good with a gun, and Billy was perfect for the job, so Tunstal hired him. Tunstal was later shot by the Sharif of Lincoln County, Billy hunted the Sharif to avenge the life of the man that changed his fate. I think Billy the kid was a hero.

billy the kid?

lots of people today consider him as a hero. The main reason is that he put his effort in the Cattle Wars of New Mexico and helped hispanic people.
But we can't not ignore the truth that he has villainous qualities too.
He killed people, not for helping others but just for revenge and self defend. So in my opinion he was not good hero.

An Evaluation of Billy the Kid

Billy the Kid was a very troubled young man indeed. I believe that he honesty didn't think he was doing anything innately wrong even through the violent encounters in which he was present. He had a troubled past and lived a troubled life that could be linked to the careless and risky choices he would make. Even though the general public portrayed him as something worse than he actually was, he always tried to make a better life for himself and start over, which is why I think he is a hero in this aspect.

Billy The Kid

I think billy the kid is far from a hero. Billy the kid did not kill to help other, he did it for revenge. Getting revenge is not being a hero it is just trying to get even. Billy is just a kid clouded by hate for the people who murdered his friend. I think it is good that he tried to get out of the bad life that he was living but the ways he tried to do that were not so good. Billy murdered three police, one was justified but the two other murdered cops were not. In my opinion Billy the kid is far from being a hero.

Billy the kids

In my mind, he is a hero, although he did something wrong. He killed many people just for revenge of his friend and self defend. He also wants to be a good people. But he is still a kid. He did things were right, but maybe it is not the best way to do events.

Billy the Kid

To me, billy was good. He just always seemed to be caught in the worst moments and acted in self defense which most people saw as wrong. I liked how he was labeled as a vigilante for the new mexicans. I felt sorry for him when his mother died when he was still a teenager and needed to start to live on his own.  All in all, i thought billy was a good guy and i especially loved how clever he was.

Billy the Kid

In my opinion, Billy the kid is a hero.Though he killed many people, he has contributes on the Lincoln County War. He was good at shoting and he helpful to the Hispanic people. I don't think he is a bad guy even he killed a lot of people.I think he just lost himself so that why he want to be a good guy but he can't.

billy the kid

i  don't think that billy the kid was a villain, i just think he was  kinda at the wrong place at the wrong time. For instance, when he shot the man in the bar, it was in self defense. The man brought it upon himself. if billy the kid had stayed to plead his case he probably could have gotten away with it. but, instead he ran.
although some things weren't his fault, some things actually were. but these things had a justifiable reason for happening. like when his boss was killed in cold blood, he and the other workers joined forces to get revenge. if he hadn't he wouldn't have gotten in trouble, but he was extremely loyal and felt obligated to avenge his boss' death.

Billy "The Kid"?

Billy the kid was considered a villain bye any one he was trying to go against, but the pueblos believe he was trying to do them right. He did kill people mostly of self defence it also was for his friend and collie. He was 15 made him more of a outlaw the would believe that he would commit those crimes more likely.

billy the kid

i think that billy the kid was a hero. when he was at the salon he only shot the guy because it was self-defense. later in his life he killed the house because they were unfair and they had made a sherif kill that one dude. even though all those killings happened he still was a decent guy. in the documentary it had stated that the Hispanic (i might be wrong on who it actually was) people had said that he was a good guy because he was killing the people who were not fair. a couple of times he did try to set things straight and start over but other people stopped that with their stupidity. so in my words i think that billy the kid was a hero for killing people for their wrongs and was just trying to go back to having a normal life.

Billy The Kid!

I think that billy the kid was a hero to the hispanic people because he put a lot of people to justice and when he died they were sad. To my perspective was that he was a villain because he killed a lot of people because of revenge of his friend.

He wanted to have a family but he could not because he was wanted since the age of 15 and he was an orphan. He had to kill the men who had kill his mentor. I think that he wanted to be a good guy but with bad intentions.

In 1821, Mexico became independence from spain. and New Mexico became a part of the Mexican Republic. And it changed the governmen. The new government in Mexico was restricted to trade with foreigners but incourge to trade with the American. So Santa Fe Trail became an important commercial route to the West because it is important place to trade with people from America
The northern New Mexico insurrection known as "The Revolt of 1847," had began when Charles Bent and the local officials were killed at Taos IJanuary 19, 1847. The revolt quickly spread. However the American army responded very quickly and decisively. In late January, the New Mexicans retreated and set up a defensive position. On February 3, 1847, the insurrection was broken and many prisoners taken. A series of tragic trials followed at which a number of the survivors were tried for murder and treason. During the following weeks, nearly two dozen New Mexicans were hanged.

A Summary of New Mexico's Changing Government

When Mexico, along with New Mexico, gained its independence from Spain in 1821, New Mexico was never really the same again. Trade with other peoples in North America rapidly increased. However, since Mexico didn't initially pay close attention to New Mexico, it was exposed to strong influence of other cultures and ideals. This situation changed for the worse when Albino Perez became governor (Torrez).

Albino Perez made quite a few changes to the government of New Mexico, including the replacement of officials and the introduction of new taxes. He was also not originally from New Mexico, which added to the opposition felt toward him by the New Mexicans. There was later a revolt that occurred in 1837 that resulted in his capture and death, but the Mexicans interfered before the New Mexicans could create their own government (Torrez).

Later in 1846, the United States was at war with Mexico to acquire New Mexico. The governor at the time was convinced to run off to El Paso, giving up New Mexico to the Americans without a fight. There was soon another revolt that took place in New Mexico also at the cause of new government. It, too, failed (Torrez).

On 1837,governor Perez replaced many local officials, and instituted plans for new taxes. And in January 1838,"the short
lived Revolt of 1837 came to a bloody end".
When American organized a new government in ancient Spain, on
January 19, 1847, several officer were killed."The revolt of 1847"  had began in northern New Mexico.

Perez And Kearny

After the independence of Mexico in 1836 the Mexican people dispatched for Albino Perez to be governor of Mexico. To the republic of Mexico Albino was considered an outsider and was not well welcomed, and the following year after Albino issued a new administration, “a group in northern New Mexico issued a proclamation denouncing the new administration”. It turned into a revolt in which Albino was captured and beheaded.
Ten years later the U.S. declared war on Mexico. Gen. Kearny took Santa Fe which gave him Mexico on August 18, 1846 without any valence. “On September 22, 1846, General Kearny instituted the Kearny Code” a set of new laws for the New Mexican people, and in 1847 there was a another revolt know as "The Revolt of 1847”.

summary

mexico gained its independence from spain in 182, and that made new mexico part of the mexico republic. There were new policies, the most notable was one that encouraged trade with americans,. this was different because while under spain, they were restricted to trade within their own communities and not with foreigners. this somewhat brought new life to the santa fe trail. It was now used by "mountain men" or fur traders, and many other merchants.  However, new mexico became vulnerable to hostile indian tribes because it was very isolated and ignored by the central government.
in 1836 the mexican republic sent Albino Perez to new mexico to become governor and employ a new government. but right from the start perez was faced with oppositions from the new mexican people. this happened for a few reasons, one being the fact that ever since 1821 almost all of new mexico's governors had been native new mexicans. the other being the fact that Perez had made plans for new, higher taxes. The conflict between Perez and the people escalated so highly that there was a revolt.  Perez and his men tried to fight them off, but they were overwhelmed. So, they retreated. but Perez was later caught and beheaded. But, the rebels did not manage to establish a new government because a group of dragoons from mexico arrived and the revolt ended violently
on may 13, 1846, the U.S. congress declared war on mexico. it ended up being a bloodless conquest of new mexico. soon later another revolt broke out, but the american military reacted quickly and took control. nearly two dozen new mexicans were executed

When Mexico gained its independent, it made New Mexico apart of the Mexican Republic. not alot affected New Meixco only spanish polices were cancled, witch said that New Mexico could'ent trade with outsiders. but under the control of mexico they allowed new mexicans to trade with outsiders. so because of the law santa fe became a hot spot for open trade, mostly with "Americanos". then the mexicans sent a new governor for new mexico, Albino Perez. he was seen as an outsider, just because the other governors were native, and he was spanish, showing there was rasisim.

on may 13, 1846 the U.S declared war on mexico, and so they sent a army down the santa fe trail into mexico. soon they made it into santa fe, and took control of New Mexico, it was a completely bloodless   battle.

then they made a set of laws for New Mexico, but they first had to appoint a governor, Charles Bent. during this a war was going on in mexico. and spread into New Mexico. there were rumors of a rebellion, to get rid of the U.S control. but on January 19, 1847 Charles Bent and others were killed at Taos.

NM

when the NM independence from Spain, they have more trade with foreigners.they also change in the government. later, they started to trade with Americans.and the Santa Fe Trail, became an important commercial route to the West. it develope the trade of NM and other states, cities, and countries. they also have a set of new laws. after that,NM developed fast and fast.

New Mexico Changed Through the Years

Life in New Mexico changed after independence from Spain in many ways. First trade was more open and the traders could travel more freely from place to place. They also had a change in Government much different from Mexico. The trade was quote ''Mexico's independence ushered in a new era of commerce along the Santa Fe Trail''.
New Mexicans reacted to U.S. occupation in a very well way. The Spanish tried to insert in 1836 their own type of Governor but the native people didn't really like the idea of a new type of person in office. On May 13, 1846, the United States Congress declared war with Mexico. On September 22, 1846, General Kearney  declared that New Mexico had to be Governed.

short summary

New Mexico changed when the Independence from Spain happened. Mexico had a change of governments, but it didn't effect New Mexico that much. Mexico was restricted to trade with foreigners but with the Independence they were aloud to trade. They mostly traded with the Americanos.
"Mexico's independence ushered in a new era of commerce along the Santa Fe Trail which changed forever the course of New Mexico's history."

the Santa Fe trail was a huge deal, it went through New Mexico and Missouri. Santa Fe was an important place where trading with people across America all happened.
"The most notable event of this period occurred in 1836, when the Mexican Republic dispatched Albino Perez to New Mexico to assume the governorship and implement a new government. "

this didn't last very long. this governor was an "outsider" while past governs were Native Americans. he wasn't that bright. some small wars broke out but one without any death   involved, New Mexico stayed quiet and kept on going.

Roots

After watching the video, you can see that Michelle Rodriguez, Linda Chavez, and Adrian Grenier had different views on their heritage. Miss Rodriguez and Miss Chavez took a big interest in learning about their roots and of where their ancestors came from . Miss Rodriguez was very open about telling her story to the public and by listening to her voice and her story, I can see that she has a lot of grit... She always was fond of her grandma and that's where she had learned a lot about her heritage; Miss Rodriguez always identified herself as being Hispanic because her ancestors probably struggled to try to identify themselves differently because of the prejudice society they lived in... But, tests showed that she had European and African blood inside her... Miss Chavez was just like Miss Rodriguez about being open and eager to learn, Miss Chavez dealt with a lot of racism in her life which led her to learn more about her life and heritage. Miss Chavez used to identify herself as European mainly until tests revealed  she has both Middle Eastern and European blood in her. On the other hand, Mr. Grenier was scared about knowing where he really came from... Mr. Grenier had always identified himself as being 'Other' because he didn't really embrace his roots... Tests revealed he was actually Native American and Hispanic
If I was a famous guest on this show, I think I would find out a lot about myself because I've heard so many stories about my ancestors and where I actually come from so it would be fun to find out more about who I really am.

I must be a shock to find know your whole life that you were one whole race, them to find out you had a little something else in you in would be a shock. she saw herself as a hispanic then she found out she had a little native in her from spain discovering the new lands. because he listed the people he freed they were able to find out what heritage she had deep deep down.
if i was on this show i wouldent thing twice about my history, i thing a know it well. I'm pretty sure i have a little native in me from a long long time ago though.

Heritage and Identification

Adrian Grenier, Michelle Rodriguez, and Linda Chavez all had different presumptions of their ethnicities even though they had very similar lineage. This likely resulted from racism or its derivatives, genealogy fabrication, or loss of records or information. Rodriguez identified herself as Hispanic, Chavez identified herself more as European, and Grenier identified himself as a jumble of different ethnicities with respect to the Native American peoples. I think that these people except for Rodriguez didn't really view their Hispanic culture as something very important .

After genetic tests, however, it was proven that Rodriguez has a lot of European and African blood, Chavez has a lot of European and Middle Eastern blood, and Grenier indeed has some Native American blood.

If I were a guest on this show I honestly think I wouldn't find any surprises.

In this film 3 famous people: Adrian Grenier, Michelle Rodriguez, and Linda Chavez show up and traces their genealogy. They had different view of their heritage. For example, Linda thought she is european. But the truth is she was part Indian and mostly Middle eastern. and Michelle believed that she was mostly puerto rican and dominican but actually she is european also part of African. Michelle Rodriguez and Linda Chavez were felf proud of their heritage and accept it .On the other hand Adrian Grenier , who identified himself as a part of an indian, didn't want to face with the truth that he is part of Hispanic. If I were a famous guest on this program, it might be interesting thing to know who really I am. But I don't think I could find any surprising thing. Because Once, my grandfather show me a family pedigree and I concluded myself as a pure Korean.

Roots

In this 50 min. film I was able to understand the diversity of people that live around the Gulf of Mexico. I think that Michelle Rodriguez’s ancestors struggle to be purely white led her to forget her African heritage that was present when her ancestors intermarried. “I think this fact that her ancestors intermarried is very scandalous and she probably should have kept it to herself”. However it was interesting to know that Michelle Rodriguez is 21.3 % African. It was surprising at first but after referring to what I know about the diversity of Spain the fact was more obvious and understandable.
I believe I am 50% African and 50% European however I believe I may be more white than black. My mother is at least 75% African I would not know exactly due to some slave owners in America did bread with African slaves in means of rape. However I do not know of any white relatives on my mother’s side of the family. I am almost exactly shore that my great grandfather was 100% polish. I do know that my grandfather and my grate grandfather fled Poland before Hitler was considered a threat to the polish people. However I do not know many of my relatives on my dad’s side of the family and I do not know much about the gap between my great grandfather and my dad. I would like to know what country in Africa I came from and the other “if any” diversities I may have on my father’s side of the family.

heritage

Michelle Rodriguez, Linda Chavez and Adrian Grenier have quite different attitudes for their heritage.  As Linda Chavez, she was interested in her ancienter. And when she was a baby, she grew closer to her heritage. Both  Michelle Rodriguez and Linda Chavez need to face a big problem about ethnic.  They accepted their heritage,
Adrian Grenier is very different. He always thinks he is a local American instead of Hispani, although his mother was Hispani. His father was European. And he lived in America when he was a baby. He has many conflicts in his mind. He was ashamed.

Roots

In this video i found the reactions of these people very interesting. They were very surprised to find out where their ancestors came from and what they did. The way they described their heritage for their whole life based on what they thought they know was not completely accurate. I think that not all of them were really happy with what they found out because it conflicts with the beliefs about their heritage that they had their whole lives.

If i was a famous guest star on this pbs documentary i would be surprised with what i found out. My family comes from all over, so it would be nice to really know where im from. My grandfather talks to me every chance he gets to tell me about my family and i think it would interesting to tell him a few things that he did not know. I think i might find out that a lot of my family lived in New Mexico, or the land that was later named New Mexico for a very long time.

The heritage

Michelle Rodriguez and Linda Chavez both accepted their heritage. They were also proud of their heritage though they were sad about that. But Adrian Grenier didn't think so. He was ashemed his heritage and he always force himself to think he is native American.Because he thought he isn't a Hispani, his father is Eourpean though her mother is Hispani. The actoress Michelle didn't think her heritage was ashemed. She is very proud of her heritage. Linda was very close her heritage when she was a child. She loves her heritage.

the video

this video was very interesting. they all stated different ways to describe themselves as other, Hispanic and i think she said native American. its crazy that even though they were practically all the same, they thought of themselves differently. you would also think they would know more about their past. i think by them not really knowing as much information it gives them a new perspective of their personal life and their whole family.

if i was famous and had to guest star on it. well one i probably wouldn't go on it. but then again i might want to just to learn about my past. my grandma has told me a lot already but stops at her parents because that's as much as she knows. now we all know i will one day in fact be famous so i think that would make it ten times cooler to know more about how my ancestors and how they were treated. i would be in shock...i think. well i don't know how i would feel because that moment hasn't came yet.

Finding Your Roots

How each  of these famous actors and commentator felt about being hispanic was either shocking, sad, or even proud to be hispanic. The actor Adrian Grenier had felt shocked and anxious about being Hispanic another than Native American or Apache. Adrain felt that because he was hispanic but native american too he had ientified himself though complexity Hispanic and Native American thus helping him relate to how he feels about him being Native American. The actress Michelle Rodriguez felt about being hispanic was proud to being a hispanic. She got in trouble often but that didn't stop her morals that her hispanic grandmother affected. When she lived in the Dominican Republic she  had saw the poverty in the Dominican Republic. She ad grew strong because of her heritage , and even though her acting roles she truly (I think) that she felt strong and pornd because of her heritage.
Linda Chavez had felt interested by her ancestry. She wasn't as affected by the findings of her of her heritage. I felt that she had better identified herself with her heritage.
If was a guest on this program I think I would be surprised by my heritage  because I feel that my family wasn't as opon with my ancestry like with Adrain. i would feel much closer with my family if I had been shown by family tree and histroy.

Heritage

All three of the famous hispanic people had different views of their heritage and hopes for them. Linda Chavez for example believed that she was mainly european. But through extensive research and DNA testing she found out she was part Indian and mostly Middle eastern. Spaniards forced other religions to Catholicism, but her main religion was jewish. This followed all the way to New Mexico where there were signs of jewish religion.
Adrian Grenier, who mainly thought he was Indian was correct but also found out that his heritage was also part conquistador. During Oñate's time in New Mexico, a sergeant of his platoon stayed in New Mexico after Oñate and most of his other men left.
Michelle Rodriguez believed that she was mostly puerto rican and dominican but came to a very upsetting surprise of finding out she's mainly european. She also found out she was part African. During the time of slavery and explorations, many africans were part of the trip to the New World voluntary or involuntary.
The way all these people believed who they were came with truth and some surprising other races showing how culturally spread out the world was hundreds of years ago.
If i was a guest on this show i would not be surprised if i was part spanish and middle eastern.

heritage

both michelle Rodriguez and linda Chavez were very open about their heritage, and embraced it. even after dealing with racism as a child, linda Chavez grew closer to her heritage. and michelle's father's side looked down on her mother's because they were light skinned. however, Adrian Grenier was a little different. at first he didn't embrace his hispanic heritage because his father wasn't hispanic and even though his mother was, she distanced herself from her deep roots in new mexico when he was a baby, and she was the one who raised him. she often focused on her native american roots, instead. so Adrian was comfortable with part apache, part caucasian. later on he learned that one of his ancestors was one of don juan de onate's men, and took part in the horrible punishment of the acoma people. when he learned this, he was somewhat ashamed but got passed it because he knew it was a long time ago. if I were to closely research my family, i don't think i would find anything suprising on my mom's side. but, if I were to research my father's side I think i would be surprised because i have never met him, and i know nothing about his heritage.

Hispanic people

They all had to deal with other people saying bad thing about them and means things as well. They all remember there past and very good and it changed them in all different ways. One way is that some did not why they lived in bad homes as they got older. Another way is that it changed there life because of there career they wanted to be and it was amizing how they over came those problems and what they did to overcome and succeed. They changed because of what they learned about there hispanic heritage.

water ?

Today, lots of the people in other countries struggling with clean water.
Especially children who lives in Africa walk for few hours to get water. even though they knew it is not clean, they drink it to survive. Today, Million of people dying because of the polluted water. On the other hand lot of people forgot importance of water and keep wasting it.
So i believe that water should not be sold. because water is a Human right. everyone has a right to have clean water.

Water

Water is a resource that is very precious to us and is running out very quickly. The system we have for supplying water to  the desert region and other dry areas is very adequate and works ok for now but that may change in the future. Selling water is good for companies and the fact that the "clean"water that they make is healthier than most natural water that can carry many germs.

Water Availability and Conservation

Water availability and conservation are both important topics in an arid state like New Mexico. It's no wonder that many ancient civilizations formed around bodies of water and established their cultures through them. "El agua es la vida: Water is life," and that's how it was for a long expanse of time. Times are changing, however, where we are now gifted with the abilities of modern transportation and water purification. This and other factors result in the industry of water and its merchandising to the general public.

"Why are we paying for water?" some may ask. For the most part, the concept of "free water" is gone to some degree. In the modern world, the water we drink is mostly payed through water bills, taxes, or purchases at the supermarket. The only practical way to get absolutely free water is to take a sip from a nearby lake or river, but that is not very practical for a 21st-century resident of the Western world. In fact, it may be even beneficial for water to have a price for this very reason. If people cannot see the consequences of the over-consumption of water through a direct source such as a lake or river, they will surely experience these consequences through the vacancy of their wallets. If water were truly at no expense, then why not waste it? Why not take it for granted? Why not pretend its abundance is equivalent to that of soil or human naivety?

In reality, water really isn't that abundant even though it's a renewable resource. Freshwaterdrinkable wateris only a small percentage of the total amount of water on the Earth, the rest composed of undrinkable saltwater. In a world where you have access to water almost everywhere you go this fact can often be overlooked. Even in New Mexico this fact can often be overlooked. If regular people shared the same experiences and outlook as the people who lived around this acequia, maybe they would learn to have more respect towards water . . . or perhaps just waste it less zealously.

Water

Water is very overused in places like New Mexico. People think that we have endless amounts of water but the fact of the matter is, we don't. People waste water every day on things like washing their car and taking those extremely long showers that are not necessary. We are just dumping out water because we don't realize how important it really is. The water that we do have and use is being polluted by these big factories. This pollution of the water will not only hurt us but also the animals and plants we give this water to. I think that it was a good idea to put a price on water because without that small thought about the water bill in the back of your mind, you would probably waste more water then you already do.

water

water can be over used in small ways like flushing a toilet and washing dishes, it may not seem like that much but think about thousands of cities with thousands of families. it adds up. and because water for use is so easy to get a hold of we over look it like its nothing, so then we focus on other "more important issues.but its true it is life. i think water for us is fine, but were on the edge of it because we detour water from underground, its basicly snow and rain seeping into the ground. but were are useing more water than its being put back in. water is sold at stores but thats fine, but water should be free for everybody. we could make things easier and filter water from the ocean, but that could be really bad for      sea life, and blindly drain our oceans away killing millions of species just like that. i see a lot of commercials about water usage and we need to be more care fill and only flush when needed, and don't waste away water.

Water

How we use our water in our cities is not substainable. We polute our water, and maybe unlike the village of El Cerrito. We abuse how we use our water in the cities. I think water should be open to everyone. Water shouldn't be sold because water was here on the earth before all us and all of us have a right to it.But, on the other hand if certain people have been next to a water source for a extended period of time then they (I think) should have the rights to that water source or water rights. We can better ensure that those of city or country has availability to that water is by protecting our water from harmful chemicals, polutates, or by making it avaliable to all who wish to use it. water rights and water use can change over time because if theres the continued use of that water and since we're in a desert those water rights couldn't be there anymore along with  water use as well.

Water

i think water is very important to everyone.we must to cherish the water.we should cycling use of wather.Nowadays, the people is very waste water, if we keep do that, we will have no water.we can't have a life without water.in my opinion,i think the waater should not be sold.we should help the place or country haven't more water.we should offer the water to them.

water -.-

Water plays one of the most important role in the nature. But water is still  limited, and water became a big problem in the whole world. So I think water should be restricted, and we should increase the utilization rate of water and efficiently recycle water especially arid regions.I think water should not be sold. Although it boost cities' development,  We have obligation to protect water's sources and keep water to be active.

Water

Water is an extremely valuable resource. But yet in dry, desert cities like Albuquerque, most people aren't paying much attention to the amount they are using. I think that water is a resource entitled to all people, and that it shouldn't have a price tag. However, I think the amount of water wasted can be cut down by educating people on ways to cut down on water usage. Ideas about water usage have changed over time because a long time ago, people didn't have much knowledge of the lack of water and they use sit whenever they wanted it. Now, they have rules that say what days you can water your  front yard. I really like the pictures because they show the way people in the villages live, farm, and get water.

Water?

They way we use water is never going to be sustainable. Until we start either reusing water or converting sea water to clean water.Water will be sold when their are no viable water sources that wont cost a fortune. We should start recycling water and using sea water to make it into clean water. In New Mexico we have droughts so we have restrictions on water use, but other regions they just use water up so i think that we should have a plan that if our main water source is unusable we should have a back up that will sustain us for weeks at a time.

water! :) :(

I think that working for there is hard because they live in a place they has very little water and on the water maybe the water should be sold because they can  not always get clean water , so that is an option. On the pictures view i say sell them because they can get some type of income, and they will always need money to help them in any way.

water

"The availability of water looks to be the defining issue of our nascent century, and monetary considerations are strongly pressing rural residents to sell their water rights for urban development needs."

i think seeing these pictures water should not be sold. well more for the country anyways. i say if its on their land then its technically their water to do what they please. but if its the city, so many people live there and its harder to get water. so in a way water shouldn't be sold. as I'm writing this i keep thinking well that's unfair to people in the city. so I'm practically back tracking everything i just said. water shouldn't be sold if your in need of water. now if your going to subway and you buy a bottle of water that's fine. but if you're in dieing need of water then it shouldn't be sold.

Juan de Oñate and Native Americans

Juan de Oñate's treatment of Manso people was different compared to Coronado's treatment of the Zuni people. Oñate's group viewed the Manso people as friends and did not create conflict with them. They also helped each other and both participated in a banquet feast.

Later in his life, however, Oñate encountered the Acoma Pueblo. Since they refused to pay him tribute, he acted rather harshly by killing, enslaving, and cutting off the feet of people. This was entirely different from his treatment of the Manso people.

I think that his actions differed from Coronado's at first because he thought that making friends with the natives would be more productive towards his goal instead of wasting soldiers and supplies to fight with them. I think that his treatment of the Manso differed from his treatment of the Acoma Pueblo so greatly because at that time, he was expecting to find gold and silver and didn't need much Native American assistance. For the Acoma Pueblo, however, he was beginning to lose hope after not finding any gold or silver and put it upon himself to demand tribute from the Acoma Pueblo.

I think that Juan de Oñate is an antihero. Even though he acted as a hero by claiming New Mexico for Spain, his lack of heroic qualities displayed itself through his encounters with the Acoma Pueblo.

Spanish Conquest

I know Onate treated the Manso people with more respect the than Coronado treated Zuni because Onate practically threw a party with the Manso people and he never abused them. The Acoma Pueblo people were treated much worse. Onate had enslaved, killed, and cut off the left leg of any man over the age of 25 in that village. I believe Onate’s treatment of the Acoma pueblo was fare worse than how Coronado treated Zuni because the Zuni had a fighting chance. In conclusion I believe that Onate was a vile cruel man how did some good things but we can all do good things but we get punished for the bad ones.

History of the El Paso Valley

Juan de Oñate's treatment of the Manso people was better.  Because Onate sent clothing to the Manso. Onate  also arranged a banquet and ask Manso to be their guests. Onate offered food to the Manso.
But Onate's treatment of the Acoma Pueblo was very brutal. When Acoma Pueblo refused to offer tribute to Onate and rose up against them, Onate punished them and killed 800  Acoma Pueblo people. And some of Acoma Pueblo became slavers by Onate. It is very different from the Onate's treatment Manso and Acoma Pueblo.
I think because Manso did not refuse their requirement and offered some stuffs to them. But Acoma Pueblo people refused them and not to follow them, so Onate people were unhappy and punished Acoma Pueblo.
Of course, Onate is a hero, his expedition has a significant in New Mexico. But on the other hand, a person always have two sides including Onate. During he did expedition, he has killed many people and cruelly treat people. Even as the result, maybe it broke a family. So sometimes, Onate also was a villain.
1. Compare Juan de Oñate's treatment of the Manso people to his later treatment of the Acoma Pueblo.

Juan de Onate and their man treated Manso people very nicely. Oñate and his men presented clothes to Manso people, and Mansos give fresh fish.
But on the contrary, Onate treated Acma Pueblo very badly
he sent his man to find gold or silver. but they couldn't find anything. Oñate's soldiers began to demand tribute from the Pueblo people. and when pueblo people refused, Oñate killed 800 people to punish them.

2. Discuss WHY YOU think Oñate's actions differed from Coronado's at first, and why his treatment of the Manso differed so greatly from his treatment of the Acoma Pueblo.

Onate treated Manso people very nicely. Because He and his man give them clothes and Mansos people give them back, But Acoma Pueblo refuse to offer food to and against the Onate.

3. Finally, discuss your take on Oñate - Some people consider him a hero to be venerated and others a villain to be despised - What do you think and why?

Onate was a hero in some way. But we should not forget how many people died because of him.

Juan De Oñate

When the Manso people greeted Oñate with a cross, he saw them as equals to him and. His men because they had the same religious views. Juan De Oñate was also greeted with food and water in return for some clothing. Coronado saw himself as better then the Zuni people and gave then orders and commands instead of treating them with respect. Oñate's treatment with the Manso people was much better then Coronado's treatment with the Zuni people. Juan De Oñate treated the Manso people with respect but then went to the Acoma people and treated them very poorly. When the native woman was raped by Oñate's men the Acoma people killed them which is understandable but when Oñate found out he overreacted which lead to a small revolt. Oñate reacted to this by slaughtering, enslaving, banishing, and cutting off the feet of all who were old enough to be involved. I think that Juan De Oñate was very far from being a hero because i don't think that anybody should idolize or respect someone who would put a group of people through something like that.

Juan de Oñate

1.i think Juan de Onate's treament is better than  Vazquez de Coronado's treatment. because they have many food and many people. the government and the people support them.
2. Juan de Oñate is very brute to the the Acoma Pueblo. because they want to find gold and money, the Acoma Pueblo didnt gine them and against them. so they punished the Acoma Pueblo. And Juan de Oñate is very friendly to the Manso people ,because the Manso people gave they food and water, and they were Catholics.
3.Because the Manso people help them, they important reason is the Manso people were Catholics. He rude to the Acoma Pueblo because he think they were not Catholics and they didn't give money or gold to them.
4.I think he is a hero as same time he is a villain, too. He changed NM and killed many people.

Juan de oñate

Oñate treated the manso people rather well, because when they first saw the mansos, they had a cross. So, oñate assumed that another Spanish explorer had already passed through. The manso people offered them water, and traded fresh fish for clothes. Then, they had a large feast. His treatment differed from Vasquez de Coronado's approach of the Zuni, in which he ordered them around right from the start. I think oñate treated the manso people well because they were welcoming and presented them with gifts. However, oñate  treated the acoma people very harshly, because when he was gone, a few of his men raped one of the pueblo women. So, the pueblo people killed some of the soldiers. In retaliation, oñate punished them very badly. He cut the feet off men over 25 years of age, and sentenced them to 20 years of servitude to the Spanish. He sentenced all other ages and genders to about 10-15 years. I think that donn Juan de oñate was a villain, because he severely punished the acoma people for their retaliation of one of his own men's actions.

Juan De Oñate

Juan De Oñate treated the Manso people kindly because he saw that they were catholic due to the cross mark a Manso indian greeted him with. Juan decided to have a feast and invited the Manso people for being so friendly. When Juan met the the Acoma people tough, he was very rude and treated them poorly since they weren't catholic. When they killed his men he treated them even more horribly. Cutting off limbs, years of slave labor and much more to show his power over them.
Oante was nice to the Manso because they gave him water for his travels. and because the people had made the cross to show them peace, because Francisco Vasquez had passed though before. and they exchanged clothing for fish to show peace,or thanksgiving. but his treatment against the Acoma pueblo was harsh, just because they stood up for their religion and honor he killed 800, slaved 500, and chopped off the foot or every male.
i do not see him as a hero. he murdered hundreds for not being a serten way, he reminds me of Hitler. but this is just one of thoughs story where there are two sides to it.

1. Q: Compare Juan de Oñate's treatment of the Manso people compared with Vazquez de Coronado's treatment of the Zuni Pueblo.

A: I think that he treated them the same but with styles. Juan De Oñate had some problems with anger and also a bad Governor. I think that he would have treated them nicer but the native killed his men and is manager. So he got anger. Coronado’s I think was calmer and was smarter but also had some problems as well, and one is that he wanted to rule over the native people. I think he wanted to be a king of New Mexico.

2. Q: Compare Juan de Oñate's treatment of the Manso people to his later treatment of the Acoma Pueblo.

A: Juan De Oñate treated them as friends. When they demanded food they Acoma Pueblo refused to give them food so Juan De Oñate killed 800 and enslaved 500, and cutting the left foot over the age of 25.

            3. Q: I think that Oñate's actions differed from Coronado's at first, and why his treatment of the Manso differed so greatly from his treatment of the Acoma Pueblo.

A: I think that the Manso treated them nice and went with them and followed orders and also demands for food, But the Acoma people did not agree so they got a cruel punishment.

4.Q:  Finally, discuss your take on Oñate - Some people consider him a hero to be venerated and others a villain to be despised - What do you think and why?

A: To me I that he can be both because Juan De Oñate made good dictions and some more wrong ones too.

Juan De Onate

1.Juan De Onate treated the Manso people much better, because they gave him and his expedition food and water. Coronado's expedition didn't treat them as fairly as Onate did.
2. Onate treated the Acoma people much more harshly because he need money but the Acoma people wouldn't give him any money.
3.Coronado treated them much differently because he wasn't so desperate for money, but Onate Need the money and any excuse to hurt them he would us it.He said that the Acoma people killed his men so he used that as a excuse to hurt them.
4.I consider him as a villain that did something good, but that didn't equal to what he did wrong.

Spanish and Zuni's first contact

Zuni Men (circa 1870)

Zuni's reaction to Spanish Conquistadors

If I was a Zuni, I would be fairly surprised to see someone come to my homeland uninvited and for them to assume that because they were Spaniards from Europe, that they had a better social status and more power over me, it would upset me quite a bit... But, to prevent violence, I would attempt to offer them a sign of peace from our tribe and attempt to gain a mutual friendship with them and show them that we were all equal with each other.

I do think that social status, race, and religion played a large part in the Conquistadors attitude toward the Indigenous people because they thought that they were better because they were full blooded, Catholic, European Spaniards and that these Indigenous people weren't important because they weren't very well known people to those overseas. I think this still plays a big effect in today's society because some of our own people feel like they're too good for other minority groups just because of they're skin color, beliefs, and especially they're social class ranking.
