i would have my men to drop their weapons and walk with me slowly. letting the Zuni people see this, so they would understand i mean no harm. maybe give them some food to show i want friendship, not enemies. hoping they take the food and understand what it means. but the most important part to bring peace is to take it slowly. not run in there with a sword in your hand, and your men doing the same.

I love the idea of bringing a gift of food! That could have made a big difference - giving instead of demanding would seem to be a gesture of kindness and equality that perhaps could have lead to peace instead of war.
