What would have I done?
If I were a Hispanic Explorer I would have tried to talk to them or have dropped my weapons. I would see if I could come in and look and not take such a strong approach that would have caused violence. I wouldn't have crossed the corn meal line. I would have talked to my commander.

What would you have done if your commander told you to cross the line? I wonder too if Spaniards took this approach because of what happened to Estevanico? Either way, I think you are right that a peaceful approach would have been a much better idea - especially not crossing the cornmeal line! :)
