If I were one of the Spanish explorers, I would have taken a calm, peaceful approach to the natives because it was their land. I also would not have crossed the line they Meade with flour, because crossing that was a very, very severe sign of disrespect. If they had done that they wouldn't have lost as many men, and they would have had less conflicts
Good insight Abe. I was wondering if the Spaniards knew what the line meant? I would think they would know - it seems culturally universal that you don't cross a line, but maybe they didn't pick up on the warning signs, or maybe they just didn't care? Either way, not crossing that line seems like a good idea :)
