Eric's Discussion Question

Was Jolyana Bitsui justified in being ashamed of her culture during her childhood?

Earth and Its Abundance of Diversity
I personally believe that appreciating different cultures is a skill that people acquire over time. Many young people, especially young children, seem to hold on to the notion that different ideas and lifestyles are "weird." In turn, the young people that experience that rejection tend to think their culture is "weird," too. So they reject their culture to be like everyone else. It is only when they mature do they realize that what they rejected was actually what made them unique, and that being like everyone else wasn't the greatest goal to latch onto. This is why I think that it was normal for Bitsui to be ashamed of her culture during her early years.

  1. Eric, i agree. I feel that the younger generations have almost lost the ability to accept change and thats why so many cultures are being lost.
